About Me

Parker, CO
I am an avid cyclist and mother of 2 fantastic girls and wife to Doug, another avid cyclist. Doug races competitively as well and we try to make it a family affair. I started riding road bikes 4 years ago and quickly determined that I had some talent on the bike. This led me to start racing and the rest is history. My love for road racing and competing had me working hard and in 3 short seasons, I worked my way from a cat 4 rider to a cat 1. I am now the team captain of a very successful race team, ColoBikeLaw!

It's been a crazy summer

Since the birth of this team, it has been an "on the go" adventure. I never imagined that racing your bike could take up so much time. I seem to be either on my bike or driving one my girls to gymnastics. All of my hard work and long hours of training seem to be paying off, as I have had quite a bit of success so far this year.

It started early with training camp in Scottsdale with coach Corey and friends Barney King and Kimberley Baldwin. There were 10 ladies from the ColoBikeLaw team, all us new to each other. We had a great time and learned a lot.

Training went into full swing getting ready for the Tour of the Gila. This was one of our toughest races of the year, but we kept our heads above water and I actually ended up 16th in the overall. This, as I would later learn, was one of my most treasured accomplishments of the year.

The year kept rolling on with races almost every weekend. My next accomplishment was winner of the SW 1-2 State TT Championships. Jeannie Longo has been showing up to train for the Olympics at most of our recent races. She used the State Championships to get ready for her own French National Championship race to qualify for the Olympics. Needless to say, she creamed us all. However, not being a Colorado resident, she was not eligible for the State title.

Moving forward to Rist Canyon RR and Hill Climb. I won both days and the Pink Polka Dot Jersey given to "Queen of Rist Canyon". I was the best all around rider of both days. I also won the green polka dot jersey for being the fastest woman on the course for both days combined. This was a fun weekend, as I have always wanted to win a polka dot jersey.

Next was Dead Dog Classic, 2 day stage race. The team rode hard as Meredith Miller from Aarons pro team was with us. Terrie and I rode a great RR, driving the pace high to wear out Meredith. We ended up 1st and 2nd in the RR. Our dreams of winning this SR were short lived however, as Meredith claimed her win with a blazing fast TT ride. She ended up 40 seconds faster than me, dropping me from 2nd to 3rd place overall.

I am in rest mode right now, as I have been racing every weekend for the past 6 weeks. I am getting ready for Mt. Evans and Salida Omnium. Both of these races are important for me, as I am winning the BAR (best all around rider) for the SW 1-2 in Colo. I need to continue to do well at the upcoming races, to keep the points coming in.

Did I mention that our fabulous squad is winning the BAT (best all around team) competition for 2008. This is our first year as a team and we are rockin away. It is so much fun to ride with this team and getting to know these ladies. I am so grateful for the friendships I have formed.

This is a cool sport! I'll report more after Mt. Evans, as I will gone next week taking my girls to horse camp!

Did you know there is also a magistrate judge in Australia, half Aborigine by ethnicity, also with the name Sue Gordon? She won high praise in The Economist for taking a balanced view of the government's interventions in some difficult situations in aboriginal towns.
(Just had to show my IQ points... really, it's a lovely blog, especially for one "computer illiterate"...)

very fun to read everything! I am not so 'up' on all your acronyms - please explain a few in the text as you go, perhaps in parenthesis... and links to see the images full size would be great! I don't know about your team at all. who are they, ages, etc. and I have know idea of the race formats, or any part of that world - but I am interested in all of it! please post more! great blog, and maybe we will do something similar. makes it easier than sending mass emails all the time... (not that I EVER send mass emails... hmm)
